Welkio

Welkio is the modern way to sign-in at an office space. Welkio's iPad app gives office visitors a great first impression by simplifying the sign-in process. Type in your credentials, take a selfie, and your host will be sent a notification of your arrival while your visitor badge prints.

Welkio was born out of a company hackathon at San Luis Obispo digital marketing agency, Hathaway. Hathaway decided to fund and incubate the idea with their top developer and project manager. I was brought on as the first hire to help the young startup grow. Fast forward 2 years  later and Welkio ending up being purchased by WeWork, the communal work space giant valued at 5 billion dollars.

Initially my role was a sales rep for the team. I walked door-to-door in business complexes pitching the idea to office secretaries. We were very successful from the start and within 2 months of my start, we could no longer handle additional clients. My boss came to me and told me they didn't need a sales rep anymore and he asked me if I knew much about social media.

Wanting to keep my job, I took the opportunity to run the company's meager social profiles. I took the job very seriously and learned everything about content marketing, SEO, blogging, product launch campaigns, and Google Adwords. Within 2 months I grew our social followings from ~50 to 700 followers. I got mentions from tech giants like Hip Chat and Slack. We even got a top spot on Product Hunt on our launch day.

I eventually left because our funding was unsure and we needed to all take no pay for an unforeseen amount of time.
